July 9th: Arrive in Costa Rica!!

Our trip to Costa Rica began with an easy, problem free, happy plane ride. We made everything on time, didnt get sick on the plane, and I didnt even throw a hunger fit. I was happy about that because we didnt exactly eat “meals’’.....

When we got to the beautiful country of Costa Rica we ran into a......snag. We quickly found a "Payless” (quotations will make sense in a minute) shuttle that took us where we would pick up our Mitsubishi Lancer. We arrived at 8 PM or so to find an American couple arguing with the manager about a scratch they acquired on their Suzuki Jimmy during their trip.....my blood pressure started to climb.....Then we began the check out process. The man explained to us that the Nissan “Tito” was the “similar” car to the brand new beautiful Lancer on the Orbitz website. The “Tito” was about ten years old and I questioned whether it was even made by Nissan. He theeeeennnnnn explained that he would have to add some additional “insurance fees” to our contract. These added up to a grand total of 600 DOLLARS more than we agreed to pay when we reserved the car!! We went around and around in circles with this nice but stubborn dude. Jennifer nearly lost her marbles on the guy and I worried for his safety at several moments during the light, casual, friendly, business conversation we were having in the ghetto of San Jose on our first night in Costa Rica. We finally decided we were getting hoodwinked......bamboozled.......taken advantage of......and we said, “thanks, but we out.” Frustrated, angry, tired, HUNGRY, (maybe just me), we shuttled to Maleku hostel where we ended our night. But what are we going to do about the car? The trip? YIKES.
